To obtain hardwood in Hytale, you can unleash your hatchet on three different types of trees — a lot more than usual. While that means there's no shortage of hardwood logs, the difficulty lies in locating the correct tree species, because they spawn in highly specific locations, usually paired with non-hardwood trees.

Where to find hardwood in Hytale

Ashwood, oakwood, and firwood all fall within Hytale's hardwood category.

To find ash trees, you must go to the Emerald Wilds (Zone 1) and look for vast forests with massive, dark green trees. They usually spawn adjacent to the green meadows. Oak trees are also found in the Emerald Wilds, but they usually spawn in the autumn forest, where they either appear as light-green trees or bright orange trees (not to be confused with the yellow and red trees!).

In the picture below, from left to right, you see an orange oak, a green oak, and an ash tree forest.

On Hytale's in-game map, here's what the oaks and ash trees look like. The arrows on the left and right point to ash trees, and the middle two point to green and orange oaks.

To obtain hardwood from Hytale's fir trees, go to the Whisperfront Frontiers (Zone 3) and look for a green swath of land full of tall, green, narrow trees as shown in the picture below.

Hytale's hardwood logs may be used to upgrade the farmer's workbench to tier 4, which requires 20 hardwood logs in total. If you haven't already, you must offer softwood and lightwood to reach tier 2 and 3, respectively. For future upgrades, keep an eye out for darkwood and goldenwood logs.

You can also use your Hytale hardwood to build new structures, such as windows or new enclosures for an animal farm.
